Reflecting on Kempenfest
The audience sees the beauty of movement and feels the power and strength from each of the artists as they execute their patterns with precision and own each movement with confidence and passion. Passion for the martial art, the music and the energy created from unified movement of the entire team.
The children performed for the first time on stage and as a larger group. Nerves were plentiful but the did not show it. They owned that stage and as their teacher I could not be more proud of each and every one of them.
It takes weeks of practise to learn just once choreography...Reptition and revision to bring out the best in the fan artists, to memorize patterns, put tose patterns to music, to open and close fans, to learn the kata that underlies the movement patterns. so much time and effort is put in by each dedicated artist.
The adults performed four pieces on the Kempenfest 2023 stage! The all did an amazing job! A little idea from so long ago thrives and the art continues with a brand new generation of fan warriors.
